The Routh Funeral Home, LLC. is the culmination of four generations of funeral services in Jersey City. The Routh Funeral Home was established in 1891 by Richard F. Routh. His son, Richmond F. Routh, assumed proprietorship of the business in the early 1930s and the company name was changed in 1967 upon his death to the Richmond F. Routh Funeral Home, Inc.

Richard F. Routh’s great-grandson, Kevin O’Brien Barnes, then became the Director, Manager, and eventual owner of the business. Upon assuming complete ownership of the business, Kevin returned the original name of the business to the Routh Funeral Home, LLC.

Kevin is a graduate of Snyder High School, St. Peter’s University, and the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. He has been a licensed funeral director in the State of New Jersey since 1973, and received his Certified Funeral Service Practitioner designee in 1994, an honor bestowed upon less than 10% of all funeral directors nationwide.

That same year, the funeral home was recognized and honored by then Jersey City Mayor Bret Schundler as a valued service to city residents. Kevin has honorably and respectfully served the residents of Hudson County for more than fifty years.
